PETER CROUCH has been handed a birthday gift with a new two-year deal at Stoke.

The England striker, who celebrates his 34th birthday today, has agreed to stay at the Britannia until 2017.

It was a double celebration for Stoke boss Mark Hughes as the club tied down midfielder Glenn Whelan for another two years as well.

Crouch, who has been involved in deals worth £43m during his career, joined Stoke from Tottenham.

Hughes said he was delighted they had persuaded the giant striker to stay.

Hughes said: “We’ve been talking to both players for a while and it’s pleasing that both want to stay and be a part of what we are striving to achieve at the club.

“They are both fantastic professionals who had contributed a great deal to Stoke City long before I joined the Club and have continued to do so.

“I’m delighted they are staying with us for at least another couple of years.”
