Andy Murray through to Australian Open last four with routine win over home favourite

ANDY MURRAY is through to the Australian Open semi-finals after seeing off home favourite Nick Kyrgios in straight sets.

Murray saw off the Aussie youngster with relative ease in a 6-3, 7-6 (7/5), 6-3 success and will now face Tomas Berdych in Thursday's semi after the Czech player upset Rafael Nadal earlier in the day.

"It was a tricky match," Murray said in an on-court interview. "It was pretty windy so tough conditions for both of us and I tried to start as quickly as possible because I knew how dangerous Nick is.

"I know exactly what he is capable of and I was not going to underestimate him at all.

"He is a big hitter so I tried to keep it out of his strike zone as much as possible. I played a slightly different style tonight and it worked."

Murray cruised to a 6-3 win in the first set, but was forced to up his level in the second when Kyrgios took the Scot to a tie-break.

The 27-year-old maintained his fine form in the third set to record victory in two hours and five minutes.
