City bounce back to winning ways but Silva suffers nasty injury

MANCHESTER CITY bounced back to winning ways with a routine victory over West Ham, keeping their top four hopes on track.

The Premier League champions saw their chances for retaining the title disappear after back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and rivals United in their last two league games.

But, City showed they will not let their season imploded completely by sweeping aside a poor Hammers team at the Etihad.

Manuel Pellegrini's men went in front after 18 minutes through a bizarre own goal from James Collins.

The Irons' centre-back tried to hook out Jesus Navas' cross but could only loop his sliced clearance over Adrian's head and into his own net.

The home side were two to the good ten minutes before halftime when Sergio Aguero notched his 20th goal of the season.

Navas was again involved, completing a smart one-two with Aguero before the Argentine superstar slotted home a smart finish.

There were worrying scenes in the second half, though, as David Silva had to be stretchered off, needing an oxygen mask.

The Spaniard was caught by a flailing elbow from Chiekhou Kouyate and needed extensive treatment on the pitch before being carried off.

Despite this blow, City were not affected and held on for the win.

City are now just a point off United in third and have extended the gap to Liverpool, who have a game in hand, to seven points.

West Ham have only won once in their last ten league games.
