Hell in the snow:
Ski holiday Brits facing road chaos
HUNDREDS of British holidaymakers were stranded yesterday as snowstorms hit the French Alps.
One man was killed when his car fell into a ravine in the Belledonne area. And thousands of motorists were trapped as roads became impassable throughout the popular skiing region.
Worst-hit was the Savoie area, where up to 15,000 people, including many tourists from across Europe, were caught up in the chaos. Temporary shelters were set up in sports centres and town halls in 12 towns to cope with people who were forced to abandon their cars.
Frances Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve appealed to people to stay off the roads. And a spokesman for Frances meteorological centre said more snow was expected and significant refreezing could make driving conditions even more dangerous.
