Manchester United to DITCH Angel Di Maria and land Memphis Depay
PSG are ready to rescue Angel Di Maria from his Manchester United agony.
Britain’s record £59.7million signing has been substituted in United’s last three matches, with manager Louis van Gaal admitting the Argentinian is struggling to adjust to the Premier League.
And if he leaves Old Trafford, United could replace him with Dutch winger Memphis Depay, who regards & Van Gaal as a father figure and mentor.
Di Maria, 27, and his family were badly shaken by an attempted break-in at their Cheshire home.
Now, it is claimed in France that mega-wealthy PSG are again eyeing his currently-unhappy situation at United.
They were seriously interested before his move from Real Madrid to United in August.
It would still be a shock if United decided to make Di Maria’s stay in Manchester just one season.
And Van Gaal has said the winger will overcome his dip in form.
But if United did decide to cash in, they could look to PSV Eindhoven’s Depay – a member of Van Gaal’s Dutch World Cup squad – as a replacement. Depay, 21 has only a year remaining on his contract and has been told he can leave in the summer for £20m.
Tottenham are also interested, but believe they would lose out to United in a battle for a player highly rated by Van Gaal.
Depay is seen as a more viable target for United than Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
Meanwhile, Van Gaal has been told he must change his tactics to allow Di Maria to live up to his £60m price tag.
United’s record signing has struggled to reproduce the form that prompted the Old Trafford outfit to ****** the cash last summer on the Real Madrid star.
But former United defender Danny Higginbotham, 36, believes Van Gaal’s side must create more time and space for the Argentina ace.
He said: “It’s very difficult to bring the best out of Di Maria with the way they are playing.
“He had the most assists in La Liga last season with 17, four clear of Cesc Fabregas and look at what he is doing with Chelsea.
“What you have to do when you have players like Di Maria is get them time on the ball and space.
“Every time he gets the ball he has someone really close and more often than not is facing his own goal.
“You need someone to stretch the game.
“You’ve got Wayne Rooney, Radamel Falcao and Robin van Persie up top who want to drop deep and wingers on opposite sides who want to come infield – Di Maria with his left foot and Ashley Young with his right.
“All of a sudden, you’ve got four of your most attacking, dangerous players, in the space of about 15 yards.”
